Practice Final

Technology is driveing our lives without excuse, no body around the world can reject the technology, even if we do not like it, or cannot deal with it. Although the technology is very important for our lifestyles, online banking may be a greatest thing we can take as an example of technology. Online banking has many advantages, such as finding the best price since you are at home (Ball, 2008), and it safes your time, so you do not have to spend your time looking for financial operations. Nevertheless, online banking has many risks that push people to be curious about it. It might an easy way to steal your money, lose merchants, or doubled money in your bills.
First, in the Internet many people used their ability provisionally to steal the credit card numbers, and account numbers. "credit card companies lose about $I billion a year to credit card fraud” (Murlean, 2008, para.5). Hackers are standing behind this kind of crimes; they have several ways to mimic the site of real stores, or they pretend the owner of some single proprieties like cars, so some people fill in this trick, and lose their cards, and their money.
Second, many goods might be lost in the operation times; the company might really send the items, but the customer does not receive it, so one of them must pay the cost; moreover, some of these merchants come with different size or quality; so the consumer cannot return it back to the company. In some cases, companies might lose around $10 billion annually (Murllean, 2008).
Finally, in some online banking, you might pay more than you think; the bills of your financial operations might hold unbelievable numbers; one time AT&T company sent to me a $700 bill to my address, I tried with them several time; at least I bought $548 with non right, the problem came from the doubling of their bills, doubles in the a mounts and in the times; however, I quit my deal with them.
Some people argue that online shopping is" not only a time saver, but it allows you to get great deals when you compare prices of the same items from different online shops” (Robertson, 2006, para.1). This is a fact, but the risk of the online shopping is still dangerous of our money; also we do not find big gaps between price in the market and online price. Moreover, the items take several days to reach your home, but you can take it from the store once you pay the money.
In addition, some people argue that online shopping is quite safe (Ball, 2008); actually, I completely disagree, because the numbers show the opposite of this argument. “According to the U.S. Federal Trade Commission, there were over 205,000 complaints of internet commerce related fraud reported in 2004, …, Forty-eight percent of those complaints were regarding Internet auctions, while 17 percent were related to sales of merchandise” (Robertson, 2006, para.2). Therefore, we cannot give validity of this argument, because we already knew many cases that destroyed this argument from the beginning.
In conclusion,if we want to use Internet for shopping, we must learn how to deal with the technology. Also we must take care about our secret information, because there are many thieves behind the screen, and we must care about our goods that may have lost their directions, and always count your bills very carefully, or if you need my advice; keep far away from online banking.

R.P . Peregrine Falcon

Most people around the world like peregrine falcon, including me; “The peregrine falcon is a bird of prey. Adults have blue –gray wings, dark brown backs, buff colored underside and white faces with black tear stripe on their cheeks” (Peregrine Falcon, n.d. para. 1). These wonderful birds have an amazing shape, which grabs all people to look at them. There are more than 1650 breeding pairs in the United States and Canada (Peregrine Falcon, n.d.). The peregrine lived in the past in the cliffs or high mountain; however, they changed their habitats after World War II, when they were going to be extinct. Recently, you can find the peregrine in urban areas, big cities where there are metropolitan bridges or skyscrapers. Peregrines replaced their habitat because they faced the risk of death by industrial chemicals. However, this is not their only big problem. Falcons have many enemies, whether they know it or do not know it that contributed to driving them to disappear.
There are three kinds of enemies that threaten the falcon’s lives; natural risks, which contributed and killed and destroyed many species, human activities, that still changed our environment and threatened our biodiversity, and predator’s animals, which destroyed the falcon’s eggs before they hatched, or eta small chicks before they can fly. These innocent birds cannot face all of these risks alone; they need some of our assistance to protect them and protect our biodiversity.
First, natural risks that are caused by changing climate lead many species to replace their habitats. Global warming, which changes the world weather, forces the falcons to migrate to other places they have not used before; in some places, global warming changes the bird’s habitats, so they may adapt to change their population. "Some of them left the desert or cliffs, and replaced them with high buildings or bridges in the cities (Lem, 2008, para.12). In addition, some “use other unconventional nest sites such as old Common Raven nests on electric pylons, Osprey and cormorant nests on channel buoys, abandoned Bald Eagle nests along the Pacific Coast, an emergent dead tree snag in California, and special towers in salt marshes. Recently they have even extended their nesting range to such an unexpected location as Cuba” (White, 2002, para.4).
Also, huge storms usually bloom in the desert more than in the cities, so they have found the cities safer to live in. The heavy rains also might destroy their nesting, or kill small chicks; however, the greatest effect is from the wildfire which burned thousands of hectares in California and in other states, and we know there are hundreds of species live in these areas, but they might killed or escape far away to survive.
There is many scientists efforts to watch falcons population growing; however, biologist Byron Crow in Western Montana, who is concerned about the peregrine falcon, monitored by his camera the mother falcon, who laid four eggs in her nest, and after they hatched and the chick moved, she destroyed and ate the small birds. This event is very strange behaves! Mr. Crow and other researchers found a few flame chemicals, which generally used on wildfires (Struckman, 2008). All of these disasters influence the falcon’s nests and populations, and make their lives under risk. We should offer good places to the peregrine falcons; these birds, like any animals need rapid intervention, and we can collect their eggs, and use high technology to hatch them before regular times. People have much experience with birds in falconries, so we can learn about small falcons in clean environment; then we can release them in new places where there are no wildfires, or strong disasters.
The second problem is human activities such as industrial firms, which use large amounts of chemicals. According to Marla Cone (2008, para.1) in her article, “California’s peregrine, once driven to the edge of extinction by the pesticide DDT, now is contaminated with record-high levels of other toxic chemicals that may threaten them again.” While the industrial chemicals are necessary for our high quality protection, it is still a principal resource to harm all organisms’ lives. Furthermore, some people who admire pigeons cause many problems of peregrines; they might shoot the falcon or poison them. “Gunners, game wardens, and pigeon fanciers shot adult falcons, which were viewed as vermin” (Beans and Niles, 2003, para 90). Governments and environmentalists can manage a plan to breed falcons far away from the cities; urban falcons have many problems in the urban area like pollution, and with other bird’s owners, so it is appropriate to find another clear environment to breed falcons.
Another risk for peregrine falcons, that nests near the beaches comes from people’s movement near the coasts; falcons “nest in coastal marshes disturbance by boats; jet skis, or curious people, construction near falcon nests located on buildings or bridges during the breading season may cause abandonment” (Beans and Niles, 2003, para.5). We cannot prevent people from using the shore for their interests, but we can transfer the falcons to unobtrusive place near the coast; we have a large space of pure coast in the United States. As they did in the 1970s, they can make new boxes in the area near the sea, instead of old ones in the cities, which is going to be another risk that threatens small hawks.
Another threat comes from dangerous people who called falconers; they usually hunt falcons or take their eggs to hunt other birds or small animals. We know there are many people who desire to hunt the falcons! Generally, people do that for many reasons; for instance, they use them to hunt other birds, or sell them to the people, who are able to teach them in the falconry; this trade is common in the Arab Gulf countries, especially in Saudi Arabia, and we are not surprised of that, if we know the cost of peregrine falcon might be set from $15,000 to $70,000 (Parfitt, 2005). People try many ways to catch it alive; sometimes, that put prey into nets, then the falcon lands in the net and may be stuck in it. Some people in the Arab Gulf take this kind of hunting as a habit, and some of them use it as a sport. However, they might hurt the falcons, or force it to leave the country, and this is immoral and illegal in most countries including Saudi Arabia.
Furthermore, in the United Kingdom, Mark Foster (2008, para.5) wrote, “ According to the charity's Bird crime report, there were 1,190 reported incident relating to wild birds last year, an increase of more than 50 percent on the previous year's total of 726,” and one of these crimes are shooting; actually I don’t know why they are shooting the falcons. The governments should punish people who are trying to hunt falcons or who shoot them just for fun, or another fake reason, and they should regulate hunting operations if that is necessary.
Because the falcon considered a great hunter, some people established falcon’s trade, so the number of his price has risen very high; as a result, some people attend to collect the eggs and small chicks from the nests, and then breed them in a falconry, after it become adults, they teach them how to hunt; after that sell them to the hunters. However, they may use illegal ways like smuggling the falcons; for example “in Mongolia, the birds are trapped, drugged and wrapped in cloth. They are then crammed into suitcases and put on trains and aircraft, or smuggled on foot through the borders” (Prafitt, 2005, para. 4) This is a bad method to sell peregrines, Governments must track these smugglers and give them harsher punishment.
Finally, some small animals such as raccoons or other species, usually attack the falcon’s nests, or their chicks. Some of these animals destroyed the falcon’s eggs before they hatched; in the Peregrine Falcon, success story
(n.d., para.6) the author states, “Predators such as raccoons and great-horned owls occasionally take eggs or chicks from the nests.” The result is that the numbers of falcons are declining. The place of falcons should be secure and safe; small chicks cannot defend themselves from raccoons or owls, and this factor contributed to the famous immigration of falcons to the urban areas, where there are no more owls or raccoons (Peregrine Falcon, Wildlife in Connecticut, n.d)
If we breed falcons in the new place, we should protect them by keeping these dangerous animals far away from the falcon’s nesting. However, we can breed animals’ that can scare owls, such as crocodiles, or the raccoons, and create the right atmosphere for them to be able to adapt to these conditions; at the same time they can expel these harmful animals.
Some people argue that they want to use industrial chemicals, because it is necessary for our industrial economy; however, though argument seems good on one side, and if we do not have another choice, we can agree with this argument, the United States and other countries have quit using some of these dangerous chemicals, and replaced them with other safe ones. In addition, if that is necessary we can reduce our use to the reasonable amounts without affecting our lives. Other people claim they want to protect their pigeons or other kinds of birds that were threatened or killed by peregrine falcons. As the author of American Peregrine Falcon (n.d., para. 6) states, “The increasing population of peregrines has presented new risks to other endangered or sensitive birds such as California Least terns and Marbled Murrelets.”
Therefore, they might shoot the falcon or poison them. Moreover, “Gunners, game wardens, and pigeon fanciers shot adult falcons, which were viewed as vermin” ( Beans and Niles, L.2003. para.1).We cannot treat the risk with another risk; we can transfer falcons to another place where people do not have properties, and we have experience that the United States used do that in the past. The government of the United States began to protect them and their nests; they used a hacking technique, which depend on transfer small falcons into boxes on cliffs or tall buildings; these boxes are supposed to protect chicks from bad weather and dangerous predators (The Peregrine Falcon, n.d.).
There are many falconers, who earned thousands of dollars from falcon’s hunt demanding the governments allowed them to hunt and trade in falcons. In the hunts, they use two ways; in one of them they takes the falcon eggs and breed it in the falconry; after they hatched, they train them to catch prey. Otherwise, they catch adult falcons by putting the prey in the net to attract falcons to fall in the nets, and then capture the falcons.“Falconers prized these birds for their excellent hunting ability and often took chicks from nests to be trained in the ancient art of falconry” (Peregrine Falcon, n.d. para7). After this dramatic describing of hunts, we refuse these ways, because they are illegal and lead to overhunting that threatens the extinction of hawks; on the other hand, it forces the falcons to migrate from places frequented by falconries to other places probably more dangerous.
Some countries like Saudi Arabia prevent falcon hunting, because it endangers birds, but Saudi hunters travel to the Sahara or to Africa to bring falcons! All countries must regulate this frantic race before the falcon is extinct forever. In addition, they must organize the ways of hunting because some people use strange tricks to catch the falcons. In Mongolia, hunters put pigeons in plastic; when the falcons try to take the pigeon, he gets trapped in the plastic. “The pigeons often escape, leaving the falcons entangled in plastic to die slowly” (Parfitt, 2005, pare9). Governments can manage this matter by regulating the time and the number of birds, which they can use for hunting or international participation sports. However, they must keep the number for hunting under natural average.
In conclusion, diversity is very important to keep natural stability. Every kind of species must be protects by local rules and global agreements; we can keep our environment full of kinds of species that give our life wonderful shape; we can protect falcons against his enemies, terrible disasters, and dangerous human operations that affect the lives of birds, animals, and human beings.
In addition, we can protect small falcons and eggs from raccoons attacking by moving one of them to another place, or breeding other animals like alligators, that can make raccoons think twice before they attack the falcon’s nests.

ABSTRACT

The topic of this paper is the peregrine falcon. It argues about how we can protect these rare birds, which have a bad experience with extinction, there are three ways to protect them; we can learn how it faced its old problems, and how much they affects their lives, what the personal solutions are we can present to protect peregrine falcon, and what the governments can do to solve these problems out side of our borders.

Invention

Do we still need new inventions? Recently, every thing is under our control by one click. In the internet, you can bring anything while you are taking a cup of tea in your warm bed. Most global trade runs by computer. Relationships among people changed from letters or telegraph to life messengers, chat rooms, Facebook, and many others. Rich people have high technology in their houses, starting from access technology system to servant robot. Every day in the military, agriculture, Irrigation, and education, or you can add in all fields of knowledge, inventors surprised the world by incredible inventions. Do we need more? I think we keep encouraging those people to continue their fantastic jobs; however, we need some inventions in our relationship, we need some people who create a new language, a new dialogs among people rather them violence, conflict and terrorism.

Vacations

All people I guess are waiting for a long holiday. It is a great time to relax. Many people work hard whether they work or study. People who have children in school are waiting for a few days of holiday to join their children to enjoy a vacation. For me, I like to travel. Most of my vacations spent in Egypt. This is because not only my wife is from Egypt, but also because it is very nice place I have seen. In Cairo, the capital of Egypt, the people approach you with their good smile, and high respect. If you know Arabic or if you find someone to talk in the English language, you will be a lucky man. They have ways to simplify everything, and that is what you want in your vacation. Actually, a few of them might ask you for some money; however, they have several ways to get it with your big smile. The city was a historical city, because it was built before around 1000 years ago. In addition, you can find new regions beside the old one. In Cairo, tourists usually visit many places. The most important place you can visit is the pyramids. The pyramids were built 4000 years ago by pharaoh’s civilization. In Cairo, there are many amazing things such as the Nile River, the longest river in the world; also, it has an underground train, they call it Metro, which can take you along the crowded capital city in few minutes. When I drove out of Cairo, particularly on the Alarish road, I saw an amazing road; we found a tunnel under the sea that was several miles long. It was dangerous when we crossed with my family under the sea in that tunnel by our car; while we reached the middle of the tunnel, we observed some water inside the tunnel, but no way, we have to complete the road to the end, because the traffic blocked the second one, so we had to wait for the other cars to move. I encourage all people to visit Cairo; it is a wonderful place.

Election
It is the first time I have seen an election in the United States. In Saudi Arabia, we do not have election to choose our president, because we are applying the Royal System. Three years ago, we started in Saudi Arabia to vote in municipal councils and chambers of commerce, and other civil matters. So it is not big surprise when we see the election here. However, the important thing that I observed here, widespread media coverage, and the professionalism which conducted by CNN channel, which tempted me and my family to watch this matter to the end. My family and I surrounded my laptop, my small daughter yelled Obama, Obama, and all of us want Obama to win. My wife and her neighbors standing out of their apartments talked about who is winning. In my side, I could not close my eyes; in seconds the number of voters maybe changed, and I did not want to lose this historic moment. In the end, they declared Obama the next president of the United States! What a big historical moments! All my family, each of my neighbors yelled in one voice, my small daughter the most happy person. I do not distinguish our happiness. Is this because Obama has Islamic assets, or we have seen liberty back to America. However, direct event and information technology that are given another taste of the election.

Happy remined

When I was child, I did many things to stay happy. Actually, I was very lucky because I had many neighbors, who shared my interested childhood. Every day, after we finished our school, we gathered near my house. Some times, we played soccer; speared ourselves as two groups. In fact, we did not have real playground. However, we put some big stones as goal. Furthermore, we pretended as real players. Some of old neighbors might took our balls, and let us very sad. In the day after, we bring other ball, and complete our games. Some times we called other friends to make match with them. In that’s time, we cannot offered real cup, so we created it from glasses, or plastic. After any groups won, they take the cup as a good reward they had ever seen! If we were not interested in soccer, we had many games to play. However, one of them involve putting seven small stones on top of each, and kick it by small ball, the team who kick the ball run away; another team tries to bring the pall and hit the other players before they return the stones as it are. It is very interesting game. In that’s time children more energy than these days. Today, our children setting near the electronic games. They do not using their bodies, only one part of their bodies is work. I think this is bad way to spend their times. I hope we can create new games that help our children to unloading their physical energy. Maybe after several years, they memorize a happy times.

Wikipedia

Wikipedia is a large source of information you can find at one place in the Internet. Around 38 million people visited the English version of Wikipedia site in December 2006 ( Byers, 2007). Wikipedia consider the ninth most popular website in the United Sates. (Wolverton, 2007) the amazing thing is that you can use it free; however, it is not like an encyclopedia, because encyclopedia is more organize than Wikipedia. In this site, you can express every thing you want; many people visit Wikipedia to get some information, or just for fun. The people who write the Wikipedia not necessary to be professional; it is opens for any level of people. Therefore, there is no limit of age for people who write Wikipedia information. As Jason Wolverton (2007, para. 7) said,"Wikipedia articles can be written and edited by anyone at anytime”

Some people do not like Wikipedia because it might contain wrong information, any body can add any information to your article, and it might change some of the audience ideas. So, “the argument amongst scholars is that the information available on Wikipedia is not necessary accurate and that the articles themselves are particularly susceptible to internet vandalism” (Wolverton, 2007, para 11). Therefore, they cannot determine the truth; because of that, many universities banned using Wikipedia as resource especially in the history papers and exam. (Byers, 2007) Moreover, it allows others to argue without knowledge, or comment on bad words of some articles or writers.

The good thing about Wikipedia is the possibility of it’s guiding you to some good resources, or if you want to write something and you do not find the subject, you can get it from Wikipedia. In addition, some people could use it to find arguments regarding some problems."This website has grown into an immensely useful resource for background information on a wide range of scientific subject, and can serve as a quick reference for any number of scientific facts” (Parry, 2008, para 6). We can use Wikipedia or Google search or any similar resources to learn those students how to guess the authority of information sources, we need them to be independent when they get their information from mysterious sources.( Bilodeau, 2008)
.For me, I used it for three reasons,to find new articles, for good arguments, and for fun.

Time Alone

Person came to the life alone, and gone alone. During these times, he spends his time with people. In childhood, he lives with family. When he adult, he attends school where many people share him most of his time. However, some times, he needs to be alone; some of human natural require him to be alone, such as in the sleep times, or when he need rest room. Person could not stay with people all time, so he must be alone. Nevertheless, the question is how long did he stay alone? I think that is depending to the one condition. If he want to stay relax is differ than he is very sad. Some problems make people disappear few days, or more.

In addition, sitting alone may be a sign of some disease. Some people have autism or drug addiction. Because of that, I believe some cultures suspected about person’s alone time. For me, I like to be alone, when I am alone. I can be with myself; review my day’s activities, and my plan. I can manage or amendment many plans if that necessary, or go a head for it. More over, I can stay far away of daily pressure watching something I want, or hearing something I like. I will not be embarrassed to hear anything or see anything else he wants. If you stay sometimes alone, that may let you pining to sit with the other soon.

In contrast, if you stay with people all your time, you can clearly see how your relationship turn to the bad way is. Many arguments will establish, teasing each other, and many unwanted subjects. So stay alone as you can, but do not sliding off the abyss of loss.

Predation of Peregrine Falcon

People around the world love the Peregrine falcon. The public interest in peregrine falcon motivated me to identify this bird in his unknown world. “Peregrine falcons are the fastest flying birds in the world-they are able to dive at 200 miles per hour”(peregrine falcon, n.d, pare). These birds have many challenges in their lives; after almost becoming extinct, the government of the United States began to protect them and their nests “They use a technique called hacking, where 30 day-old birds are placed in hack boxes on cliffs or tall buildings. The box protects the young birds from the weather and predators” (The Peregrine Falcon, n.d. pare 8).

However, while they brought back to the life, and they increased in their population, they came to threaten the lives of other birds. As the author of American Peregrine Falcon (n.d. pare. 6).states, “The increasing population of peregrines has presented new risks to other endangered or sensitive birds such as California Least terns and Marbled Murrelets.” The new conflict might be started again among agencies, because the Migratory Birds Treaty Act, which “prohibits the taking, killing, possession, transportation, and importation of migratory birds, their eggs, parts, and nests except when specifically authorized by the Interior Department.” besides other organizations that spent many years to protect falcons. On the other hand, there are other government’s agencies that aim to protect other birds from the threat of falcon. “Monitors of such species must assess the threat peregrine pose and recommend actions, such as harassment or life – capture and relocation of individual peregrines” (American Peregrine Falcon, n.d, pare. 8). In fact, falcons face other problems from people who breed pet birds also.

In my paper,Iamgoing to discuss these problems because the falcons will be facing many problems, and might threaten other birds’ lives, or force them to migrate far away. To protect this kind of birds we must be careful because it is not pet birds, therefore, if we want to change their habitats, for example we should take the eggs and establish new falconry to make all the birds live in safety places. Moreover, we should prohibit any kind of the genocide, like poisoning or shooting the falcons to protect other birds!

Finally,I have found many articles that talk about these problems and give many examples that describe the threat of falcons and other advantages of increasing their number in the environment; in addition, I will try to find more solutions of this problem in other articles as much as I can.

Dream

In my age,all dreams has stooped. No more dream; we have taken every thing that we want. However, maybe we can dream of other people; our children, our friends, or people around the world. My dream of my children; I hope they can live in pace with their selves, and with their peers. In addition, I wish they could succeed in their study, and in their lives. My friends I hope they can complete their lives with more successful and healthful. At last, my dream of the world I hope they to be one nation. All of us came from same father and mother, so they do not need more differences in their opinions. They no need to fight each other. I hope some of wise men can rolled the world to drive it to new era, where no more fight or killed. People can help each other to solute economic problems, which might take our countries many years back. If there are one dream that can I imagine, one last dream when she disappear from my life. Everybody knew what did she main for me .Many lost years of my life run after my dream. Asked people could they saw her. Explored in the neither desert where there grasses nor water. Examined in the cities and streets where people and high bright streets. When I tired and exhausted, I decided to travel, to find some thing can make me forget her. Nevertheless, the years passed and I still memorize her voice and her good looking. Sometimes I fell her breathing warmed my heart. I see her standing with White dress that I like to death. I hoped that I could stop the wheel at that time. So do you know who my love’s name is? Her name is the happiness.

Holiday In Saudi Arabia is very interesting. Usually, people travel to cold towns in the west of Saudi Arabia or in the south. I would like to talk about Taif city, which is located in west of Saudi Arabia: it is 1700 meters higher than sea level. There are high mountains, which are rise to the sky, one of them as 6000 feet. Green trees are surrounding all the mountains. Families sometimes build small tents, and bring their foods, which usually contain lamb and rice. Children can move around, and gather some fruits which grow around mountains. During summer, vacations, there are many playgrounds in those mountains. It looks like sex flags, but it is not. In addition, there is a high electric track that can take people from the top of the mountain to down and opposite. People can get drink or food from different restaurants nearby. The difference between holiday in the United States and Saudi Arabia is people in Saudi Arabia might travel as a group of relatives, and have share their habits like soccer or another activity. Here you could not see two families together; In Saudi Arabia they might stay together for 20 days or more, but here I think it is less than number. Also in Saudi Arabia, they do not drink alcohol, so they use cola, tea, or an Arabic coffee. In the end, I hope I can go back to Taif to take my next holiday over there.

Halloween

In the past, Halloween is not an American costume. It came with Irish people who colon The United States around 1800. People here, usually follow everything strange comes from outside. Actually, this holiday need to be review in American society, because it scaring small children. In addition, it gives Devils something of importance and greatness and the ability to scare people.
At the same time, it drains the ordinary people's money; people spend thousands to buy Halloween's customs and throw it out after few days. It also promotes a culture of myth, which concerns the people of their own affairs task. In my country, we just have two big days per year to celebrate. One of them comes after holy Ramadan month, when we finished our fasting, and it mains thanks for Allah (our god) because give us chance to fast and break fast with good health. Second, it comes after Hajj when the people visit Makkah city in Saudi Arabia. After people performed worship and follow, the rites of the pilgrimage Abraham. They celebrate thanking Allah because they completed their Hajj. Other Muslims who was out of Makkah celebrate in their homes slaughtered sheep as Prophet Ibrahim did. We do not have any celebrate for divels! No way. We believe they are humans’ enemy. Our holy Quran teach us how they are driving people to the Hill. At the outset, the devil luring Adam and Eve, and took them outside the Haven. Today his followers want to drive people from their realism to the myths and myth. As a personÙˆ, I do not like to see people in appalling scenes. If a Doctor, respected teacher, or father who has many children dress up strange clothes, I think that is ridiculous. Moreover, it is inappropriate and not even acceptable.

Sports

My favorite sport is soccer, I like soccer very much. Since I was ten years old, my father took me to watch a soccer team in our small town. When there was no real match between our towns clubs. I played (soccer) or football as we called it in the Arab World. Two teams should play soccer games, in the championship each team must have eleven players and five as stand by. However, in the other places you can play it with any number of people. In Saudi Arabia, we have good players. We reached the world cub four times. As we enjoyed this play; it has many dangerous injured. Many players have broken bones, heart attack, and suddenly died in the stadium. Other problems come from audience; they generally make problems when they encourage their favorite teams. Some of them hit the players with glasses or stones, or hit other spectators with chairs or fireworks or any thing else. They might burn the playground, so soccer very nice game if we have wise people.

Summary and Response # 2

Peregrine falcon return

In Cindy Hoffman's (1999) article, “The peregrine falcon is back” she talked about the deletion of the falcon from the list of threatened bird species. After many success stories with other birds, now the turn has come over the peregrine falcon. The falcon that nests in the cliffs or urban skyscrapers could not withstand the massive proliferation of DDT after the Second World War. The Environmental Protection Agency prohibited the use of DDT in the United States. Because the population of falcons in the eastern United States disappeared, and population in the west declined, the falcon was listed under the Endangered Species Conservation Act. As result, cooperation between American institutions as well as internal and international cooperating led by the Government of Canada to preserve the culture and the protection of nesting hawks has achieved impressive results. Some of the falcons started their new lives in the skyscrapers where they can find their prey. However, the peregrines are still protected by the Migratory Bird Treaty Act, which prevents any kind of threat to birds unless being under regulation hunting. In addition, they continue to follow up on the falcons after they are removed from the list for next five years to make sure they do not need to be listed again. This amazing success story might encourage other countries to try the American plans, which contributed to making the numbers of peregrine falcon double several times.

There is an Arab proverb that says, whoever does not know the Falcon, might grill it. This proverb describes the situation of many people, who do not respect the falcon’s life, or do not know how deal with them. However, the United States and Canada have taken strong action about protecting peregrines lives, they established many ways to let them survive, such as adding peregrine falcon to the list of endangered species, prohibition of use of harmful substances like DDT, and following-up, and monitoring the falcons after the birds are removed from the list. These approaches helped in the return of the falcon to his natural situation.

First, the United States has a list for all of endangered and threatened species after they noted high declines of the numbers of the birds in the United States, “The peregrine falcon has been protected under the U.S. Endangered Species Act since the early 1970’s” (The peregrine falcons of Morro Rock, n.d). Many countries have the same idea, in the United States the government has the ability to apply the rules strongly; people also have high respect for rules. These two factors contributed to the scientific success. On the other hand, people in Saudi Arabia obey the rules in general, but they have problem with their friends or relatives who desire to break the rules for personal needs. Therefore, we still have many species on the brink of extinction, although they established several protection rules.

Second, these falcons have been suffering for a long time from harmful industrial toxics; in her article (2008, para. 7), Sharon Lem said, "DDT causes the shell of eggs to thin and break before the chicks are ready to hatch.” That clearly explained why the number of the falcons dropped sharply in the United States in the past. The government banned the use of DDT; this solution aims to protect the life of the peregrine falcon. This decision helped to purify the atmosphere and paved the way for the chicks to grow naturally developed during the incubation period.

Finally, in high provisional treatment, the government started a new program to breed new generations of peregrine falcons. “Peregrine falcons from various sources were used as breeding stock. Chicks were hatched and raised in captivity and then “’hacked’ into the wild” (Peregrine falcon, n.d). Many falcons live right now in the urban places such as cities or bridges. A recovery Plan has along strategy. They watched the birds for five years to make sure that they do not need any more recovery.

In conclusion, all governments around the world must protect our variety of species, especially peregrine. They might use the American method, which protects it under the force of law, or prevent everything that may affect falcon’s lives, and follow up in their planning without any excuse for any reason. If the world does that, we can keep our environment rich by various organisms.

Love in Saudi Arabia

Love in Saudi Arabia
In Saudi Arabia, we have a large space of love. The love has much kind of definition, and many degree of level. The first steep is love in god, who creates human and other species. This love mains obey lord for any thing he asked to do, and avoid any thing he forbidden it. Next, love in your parents, who cared of you and protected you since you are small baby. Third, love all people in the world; it is including every one you deal with. In addition, you have to learn how to treat with them, and how to make relation ship with them. The last love and the important one is love of your soil, on other ward, second half of human gender. In my country, we treat with woman very carefully, because in our culture she is expensive thing we have. Do you know why? Societies usually contain thousands of families, nuclear family in other side contains father and mother and children, women are basic part in the nuclear family, our children growing up under their ayes, so she need more care of protection. We cannot let her as any goods in the market, every body can touch it, try it, use it, and in the end through it as any bad staff, and start looking for another one. Love in my country was holy approach; it comes after real relation ship. There is one way to gain marriage! People in Saudi Arabia choosing their wives based in moral behavior. You cannot choose your wife (love) from websites, or chatting room, because she might knew tens before or after. Your love should just for you, and forever. People can find their wife’s by their lovely moms, sisters, or any friends.
In the beginning they describes her to you, and describes you to her, If you interesting each other ,you can meet your future’s wife usually in her parents’ home, or brothers, then you might get wonderful looking from attractive face which no body saw it before, or you might break in love. After you both get married, you can give her all love you save it during your life. Love you do not separates it to any body before, pure, soft, and sincere. In contrast, you will win her pure heart, which doesn’t hurt from any playboy, or bad person before.

Peregrine Falcon is in Danger

According to Marla Cone in her (2008) article, “A new toxic threat to bird of prey," the peregrine falcon is in danger of extinction due to pesticides. These dangerous chemicals are found in high concentrations in the urban areas where the Falcon is living. In addition, many studies have found the same chemical in the breast milk of women in this area of California. In addition, this is not only dangerous for the falcon but also can hurt humans. Furthermore, scientists believe that these toxic substances are used in electronics and move through the dust of house into the air, then to the urban pigeons on the streets, which are then eaten by falcons. The study discovered that the eggs of urban falcon are composed of higher levels of chemicals than these in rural inland and coastal areas. The writer also explained that children are more susceptible to injury than adults are, because they are playing in the dust-infested streets. In the end of the article, the author hinted at the importance of preventing the increase of toxic substances in California, and she wrote about the prohibition of certain harmful substances used in electronics.

The dangers that threaten the Peregrine Falcon are taking many forms, such as environmental pollution, overhunting, and poisoning, of the falcons. Obviously, the birds cannot avoid these things by themselves.

First, environmental problems are very different depending on the atmosphere, for example, a tropical climate; it is rainy throughout the year, which causes floods that cover the land, forcing the birds to migrate looking for safer areas. Another climate such as the desert climate is very hot, and there is neither water, nor foods. Therefore, there is no vegetation in which the birds can find food. In this case the birds try to change their places in search of survival. In the frozen area, the global warming is melting the ice, which is causing many changes in the environment; birds might move to dry regions. These are simple examples that explained how the environmental problems contribute to hurting the birds or even human lives.

Second, we know there are many people who desire to hunt the falcons! They usually do that for many reasons, for instance, using it for hunting other birds, or selling it to the people who are able to teach it in the falconry; this trade is common in the Arab Gulf countries, especially in Saudi Arabia, and we aren’t surprised of that, if we know the cost of peregrine falcon might be set from $20,000 to $70,000, and the highest record reached around $250,000 (Yasater, n.d.). People try many ways to catch it alive. Sometimes they put prey into nets then the falcon lands in the net and may get stuck in it. Many people in Saudi Arabia take this kind of hunting as a habit, and some of them use it as a sport. However, they might hurt the falcons, or force it to leave the country, and this is immoral and illegal in most countries including Saudi Arabia.
Furthermore, in the United Kingdom, Mark Foster (2008, para.5) wrote, “According to the charity's Bird crime report, there were 1,190 reported incident relating to wild birds last year, an increase of more than 50 percent on the previous year's total of 726,” and one of these crimes is shooting; actually I don’t know why they are shooting the falcons. The governments should punish people who trying to hunt falcons or shoot them just for fun, or another fake reason, and they should regulate hunting operations if that is necessary.

Finally, another danger of the falcon is that it is accursed by industrial chemicals that spread worldwide; many of falcons were injured, or killed by the pesticide DDT, or another kind of industrial chemical. The problem is very complicated, because we cannot prevent factories from using some dangerous chemicals, because we do not have safe alternative resources. Although we can organize our lives by avoiding establishing new factories near wildlife areas, also we can create new falcon’s centers to breed birds in quality environments. Most chemical problems accrued among eggs, so we can make it under our protection. Moreover, the companies can help governments by innovating new safer materials that do not destroy the ecosystem, or pollute the atmosphere.

In conclusion, the life of Peregrine Falcons responds to all people; as a community, we can help the governments around the world to avoid using chemical contamination in our products or avoid selling chemicals; also we can prevent illegal hunting, and poisoning of the flame; if we do that we have contributed to giving the king of the sky- the Peregrine Falcon- his previous freedom.

Fluency Exercise #2

Comparing between two places

Talk about nature is very interesting to me. I like desert so much even if it has very little green space. Desert means freedom; you can send your vision as far you can. There is nothing that can block your vision; you can clearly see the horizon as the end of everything. The view of sky while hugging the earth tells you a perfect romance story in the desert. If you are lucky, and your eyes catch rare animals you feel more happiness and joy. I know my words seem strange somehow, but this is the truth. At the same time, I like Carbondale environment, because you see God's gifts. I have seen landscapes here I have never ever seen during my life. There are many kinds of forests, and it changed every season as a wonderful view done by the greatest artist. When you go around you thought yourself in the wide zoo, you can see various birds, dear, turtles, and many other animals. People here are very respectful to the environment; they do not follow the animals or hunt the birds. Carbondale is a very interesting place to live in; however, my heart takes me to the desert where there are no more animals or even green trees.

Practice S.R

Global changing

In Tim Hirsch’s (2005) article “Animals ‘hit by global warming,’ ” the author discusses the fact that changing of climate probably causes extinction of animals and might affect birds' migration. In addition, he points out several causes, such as melting ice, desertification, and warming of seas. These big factors push the birds to change their life style; some of them changed their migration, while others adapted with new situation. However, the problem remains with other birds that cannot adapt like others. Finally, he summarizes the problem in a variety of things like facing strong storms, raised sea level of water, extended desertification, and decrease of grown water in some places. Moreover the author states that the world must find a global solution to fix this problem.

Clearly the animals' and birds' lives are threatened by weather changing, and hunting; however, we have some trying to fix this big problem, because the birds are considered an important part of our life. The author talked about many real problems which threaten animals' and birds' lives, and they also threaten biodiversity. All organisms should have a safe place, food, and large spaces to gain their freedom. Birds and animals need to move when they feel something wrong in their wild habitat. For example, they migrate if they can’t find enough food or if the plants disappear because of hot weather. Also they cannot live if the places are empty of water or from grasses. Furthermore, many people contributed to extending this problem by using hunting and following the animals with their cars. Moreover, they might use the coasts for their relaxation, which pushes the birds and turtles, for example, to leave the shores. We can not close our eyes in front of some agreements which the countries signed like the Public Authority Wildlife Protection (1992), which was joined by 191 countries, and which aims to protect the biodiversity because it is the important source of our foods, clothes, and medicine(n.c.w.c.d., n.d.). Second, there is Treaty to Maintain the Migratory Species (1979), which was signed by 108, and it talks about offering immediate protection to animals and birds which are mentioned in it. Third, there is Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species (1973), which was signed by 172 countries, whose goals are to protect more than 2800 kind of plants, and more than 5000 kind of animals.

On other hand, there are many attempts by individual countries like the United Kingdom, when it established a huge bank of DNA for thousands of animals that are threatened by extinction. Also, in Saudi Arabia we have The National Wildlife Conservation and Development, which created many wildlife areas to protect the animals and birds from any threats. These agreements surely contribute to solving this problem, and we still need more cooperation among the countries, and we need to start from our selves through building a new relationship among ourselves and our environment. The importance of that is because those are our natural sources, and they clearly affects our lives. We cannot imagine the earth without birds giving us delicious foods or nice songs, and we cannot live without beef or milk; this is a real problem. If we cannot control our environment and protect our animals and birds, we might be the next victims of global changing.

The Difference Between Riyadh and Carbondale

Since I have been here in Carbondale I have observed many amazing things, people here are very quiet and very respectable. They usually distribute their smile to strangers. In addition, they are very helpful. The town has two main streets only; when the dust is coming, all the city is going to be quiet. In the morning there is a large space for your car to move softly and safely. The problem of Carbondale is there is no large opportunity for the citizens to find jobs, but it still is a very nice place for me.

Riyadh, the city where I lived before, is considered the capital of Saudi Arabia. It is 45km long and 45 km wide;there are tens of highways. The population is around two million people; in the morning you need around half an hour to reach your destination. The people are too busy by themselves; there is a wide desert around the city, so warmth surrounds your life in the car, in the home, or even under the air conditioning!

These big differences between two cities don't make me uncomfortable, because I tempt myself to live in any place under any matters. Riyadh is still my own town, which I love to death. In contrast, Carbondale is great place for people who need learning or to have a relaxing life, because it had many wonderful places like Murphysboro Lake, Giant City, or spillway; I like this environment very much.

School classes in my country

In Saudi Arabia we have two kinds of school :public school and private school, generally, students attend to their classes at morning. We don't have specific time to beginning our study .In this year we are starting in 10/10 2008.In the public schools there is no uniform to be wearing during the class, however in the PE class they might ask students to bring some athletic uniform.Private school in the law grade they have to wearing special uniform, but the high grade did not.Teacher most go to the students in their classes. They can ask students to the computer lap or since lap, otherwise students can not leave their locations.in the United States we observe big different not for cloths or classes ,but for education treatment. In the United States, teacher try to reach to the students hard ,they prepere hard to offer the subject in easy way, they make many different way to reach information to the students, they don't teasing the students, they make high respect to them.In our country we need some of this behaviors to our students.I don't say we don't have this habits, but I said don't apply it in their teaching.education system in Saudi Arabia there are two semester, there is one exam after each semester, after that they have long holiday they might reach four months in some years

Movies

I like movies so much,do you know I don,t see movies during this month.Actually ,I would like to do ,but I did not find time to do.Every day we have long ,long home work. I still remember my favorite movie "Bad Boys" when will smith and his friend act policemen.I like this kind of movies, because it is pretend fighting between good and evil. Any way,in my country Saudi Arabia we don"t have real theater industry,of course we have some personal tries , however, it serve to introduce our country in the international exhibits. I believe that cinema industry needs high budget, and many specialist institutes . If we can offer these elements maybe we can establish theater industry. People in Saudi Arabia watch both Arab movies and western movies,I don't have specific statistic to obtain the people attitude, however, If they want some romance they attend to the Arabic movies ,because it close to their filling and talk about their environment, and they like western movies when they want to watch action or adventure's films. In the end ,I hope I can take rest to watch many movies because I indeed want to do.
